Fitting you pool style to your life style
Since a swimming pool can be a very permanent structure – as the remains of ancient pools in Asia, Africa, and Europe attest – you’ll want to give a great deal of thought to the pool in your future before jumping in.
One of the first things you need to consider is how you will use a swimming pool. You may want a spot where you – and even your children – can relax and entertain. Or you may see a swimming pool as a healthful exercise center in your own backyard. For your children, a pool will be a playground or perhaps even a training center for aspiring swimming and diving champions.
Each use has certain requirements, and defining the uses now will help you choose the best location for you choose the best location for your pool that meets your needs. (Take a look at “Which Pool for You”)
A pool used for relaxation and entertainment should have a large shallow area to splash around in space around the pool for sunning, and room to set up tables and chairs nearby. The same pool will be great for children, too.
If you intend to swim for exercise or if your youngsters are Olympic hopefuls, your best choice will be a rectangular pool – the longer the better, and deep enough at both ends to negotiate turns safely.
Divers have very special requirements. In order for them to dive without injury, one end of the swimming pool must have adequate depth, length, and width. The glare of the sun off the water can make it difficult for a diver to estimate the distance to the water surface and to the sides of the pool. If at all possible, orient the diving area so that at the time it’s used the most, the sun will be behind the diver. |
